About Us |
Tots and Tails is our family business in every sense of the word, babies, pets and all! We are two sisters, Kimberly Mashburn and Tamera Anastasi, who along with our mother Carol Birchman wanted to start a business where we could all spend time being creative together. Last year the three of us: a new mom, a new college graduate and a happy grandmother, were sitting at home together enjoying a beautiful Texas spring afternoon. We reminisced about our family as we watched the new grandchild and our menagerie of pets playing in the yard. The fun topic of the moment was the many large changes in our family. Everyone seemed to be going in different directions, with little time left for each other to enjoy moments like this one.
One of our more serious topics of conversation was the development of a family business. As we had never had one, the question of course was “what should we do?” The quandary, as is typical in these situations, is how we would combine our many interests, experiences and talents into one business. The conversation was interrupted numerous times as we watched the antics and play of our children and pets. The pleasures and joys of our family surroundings was a logical home for our family business to grow. The time we get to spend together and the love we have for our children and pets are the motivation for our company.
Our product line includes blankets for people and pets, burp cloths, baby and pet slings and pet pillows. Form and function are inherent in all of our products. We take special care in picking out our materials and in designing the products for lots of use by children and pets alike. Our handmade products can be found online and in select boutiques.
We have combined our unique ideas and expertise to present the very best in children and pet products. We hold ourselves to high standards and everything on our website has been meticulously chosen and created with quality and uniqueness in mind. We take pride in our website that is full of fun, funky, cute, and cuddly products for all lovable tots and tails!
The Birchman family settled in Austin, TX over 20 years ago. Kimberly and Tamera grew up there throughout most of their childhood. Carol was a Stay-At-Home-Mom until one day when she decided to complete her education and get her degree from the University of Texas at Austin in Interior Design. She worked very hard completing assignments and studying while her husband was away, flying for a major airline. She was also taking care of two young children. She has also worked for Linfield Designs and Caffrey’s. Carol staged homes while they were being sold and worked as a real estate agent until the formation of Tots and Tails. She has been sewing since she was a child, making clothing for herself and for her children, as well as quilts and other accessories for the home.
Kimberly Mashburn is a work-at-home-mom with two young girls. Her oldest is 3 and her youngest is 1. These two girls are the inspiration and “professional” product testers for the children’s line of Tots and Tails. Kimberly studied Child Development in college and is married to an Austin Firefighter, also her high school sweetheart! Kimberly has worked in management since her teens as it followed into a job doing corporate marketing for a steakhouse chain.
Newlywed Tamera Anastasi married her college beau in May 2005. She graduated from Texas A&M in 2002 with a focus in Recreation, Park and Tourism Science. Tamera has also worked in marketing and worked for a specialized travel guide/store in Austin after graduating. Her baby is a four-legged furry boy named Tex. Tex, as with all the family’s pets, was rescued from a shelter.
This family firmly believes and supports in pet adoption and rescue. Some of their spoiled family pets came from shelters while many just came to them and called their house their “home”.
And that, as they say, is how Tots and Tails Designs was “born!”
